Obituary of Dawn Elaine Hopkins

Dawneen Elaine “Dawn” (Solum) Hopkins

Dawneen (Dawn) Elaine Hopkins peacefully passed away on December 9, 2023 at the age of 88 in Tucson, Arizona. Dawn was born on August 13, 1935 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was united in marriage on June 30, 1956 to Harvey Hopkins.

Dawn is survived by her loving husband, Harvey, of Casa Grande, Arizona, her son Scott (Andrea) of Tucson, Arizona, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Don and Irma (Billie) Solum, sisters Diana and Sandra, and brother Steven.

Dawn was a member of the Covenant Church of Casa Grande where she found solace and support in her faith. She enjoyed participating in various church activities and events, including making clothes and blankets for people in need. As a young woman, she had a successful career working for a milk truck manufacturer and telecommunications company. Dawn had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy and fulfilment. She was an avid reader of history and nonfiction, which transported her to different worlds, provided her rich insights, and taught her skills for new hobbies. These hobbies included horseback riding, playing golf, skiing, guitar playing, cooking, and various needle arts. She was a marvelous seamstress – making clothes for herself, her grandchildren, and even business suits for Harvey. Though never one to brag, Dawn’s creative skills were impressive, which developed in her a quiet strength as well as a wry sense of humor.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, December 19 at 11:00 am in the Clubhouse at Fairways, located at 2054 N. Thornton Road, Casa Grande, Arizona. The Reverend Brant Baker will officiate the service, honoring Dawn’s life and the impact she had on those around her. Light refreshments will be served after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) at 225 North Michigan Ave - Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Contributions made in Dawn’s memory will support research and assistance for those affected by this disease.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Mountain View Care Center of Tucson for their loving and attentive care.

Dawn Hopkins will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her unwavering Christian faith, and her passion for her hobbies. Her impact on the lives of those who knew her will be cherished and celebrated.
