Obituary of Kim I. Morgan

Kim I. Morgan, 74, of Tucson Arizona, died Monday, July 3rd at Dempsey’s Adult Care Home in Tucson from a combination of late-stage Dementia and lung cancer. A son of Lawrence and Kathryn Morgan, he was born October 12, 1948, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

Kim was a resident of Tucson for 60 years, and he graduated from Palo Verde High School. Kim was then drafted by the Army in March of 1969 and was stationed in Thailand supporting the Vietnam Conflict and was later transferred to Germany. He received several medals and an honorable discharge in January 1972.

Upon returning to Tucson, Kim worked in the automotive-repair industry and later co-owned an auto repair shop with his brother Ross until retiring in late 2012.

Kim’s early passion was auto-racing, and he piloted a jet-powered dragster briefly before building a custom drag go-cart, and finally settled into the role of the pit crew-chief for local sprint car racer Don Sink. Kim’s pastimes also included restoring antique trucks and riding 3 wheelers in the mountains. Kim’s focus eventually changed to woodworking and his custom creations included everything from turning bowls and mugs on a lathe to intricate work creating clocks, marble games and many other creative items.

Kim is survived by his nephew and nieces, Troy (Kim) Morgan, Kim Rivera, and Melissa James, brother-in-law Jon Facklam, sister-in-law Gail Morgan and several other nephews and nieces.
