Raymond Poulsen

Obituary of Raymond E Poulsen

Raymond E. Poulsen born in northern Kansas on George Washington's birthday in 1932, died October 5, 2015 in Tucson. He was raised on a farm, the son of a Danish immigrant father and a Danish-American mother, with three older siblings. He joined the US Air Force in 1952, and was trained as a cook. By the time he retired he was supervising the "In Flight Kitchen" at Davis Monthan AFB. Later he worked for Pima County Waste Management and he retired after 15 years. He met and married the love of his life, Joyce, while stationed at Cannon AFB in New Mexico, and they had two children. The family lived in New Mexico, Georgia, Missouri, and after his transfer to DMAFB in 1967 they decided to make Tucson their home. He had two TDY assignments during their marriage - one in Goose Bay Labrador (Canada), and one in Greece. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Katherine (David Kleinman) of Tucson and son, Virgil (Amanda) of Crestview, Florida. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Karen (Katherine and David) and Maxwell (Virgil and Amanda), as well as extended family members, and the many friends he made. He had been a member of Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, and Sabbar Shrine, Tucson, as well as Knights Templar, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tucson. He particularly enjoyed playing bingo with Joyce at the Shrine and Eagles lodges. Recently he said he wished to be remembered as someone who always tried to do the right thing, and he did enjoy helping those in need. There will be no service.
