John Reuter

Obituary of John Fredrick Reuter

John Reuter, Jr was born in Queens Village, New York, July 7, 1940 to John and Margaret Reuter, Sr. At age nine his family moved to Tucson, AZ. He attended All Saints Catholic School and Tucson High School. After high school, John attended the carpenter's apprentice program and began working with the carpenters' union hall. John was later married to Josie (Terrill) on November 25, 1961. Josie introduced John to Bible Study Fellowship where he was exposed to the study of God's Word and met people who had joy, peace and a love for others. It was here that John met Jesus and began his study of the Bible that would last his lifetime. John and Josie had three children; Joni LaRae born in 1962, John III born 1964, and Jolyn born 1975. He and Josie had a desire to serve together and care for foster kids. They were certified with the State of Arizona. In a span of four years they cared for sixteen teenagers. This lead to an opportunity to serve as house parents with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship. In 1970, they moved to Ivyland, Pennsylvania where they managed a 30 acre farm housing missionary kids. The number of kids living at the home ranged from thirteen to twenty-one. It was a full house with lots of memories. John and his family returned to Tucson in 1980. John used his craftsmanship skills to work as a general contractor until he was hired by the City of Tucson as a building inspector. He was later transferred to the water department and retired as a supervisor in 2002. He joined his son, John, working for Assurance Builders until he fully retired. John is preceded in death by Josie (1994), and Jolyn (1998). Throughout the years John remained active and involved in the churches he attended. It was at Christ Community church that John met Wendy Klinkner and were married in 1995. They celebrated their 20 year anniversary on June 24th, 2015. Together they were involved with Bible studies at the church and enjoyed many trips and cruises with their friends from church. John was remarkable about putting his faith in action. One of the last acts of faithfulness included the rebuilding of a burned out house for a refugee family. Even though John was on peritoneal dialysis, he faithfully worked on reconstructing the house for nearly a year. It was his delight to share the love of Jesus with this family while putting his tradesman's skills to work. John is survived by wife Wendy; daughter, Joni and Steve, grandson Sam (Westwood); son John III and Debra, grandchildren Mikayla and Joshua; sister, Margaret and Joe Buffalo, niece Tanya, and Ivy; sister, Betty and Pat (Sparr); nephew Doug Saul. John died from complications with his kidney dialysis that finally overwhelmed his body. John was a caring husband, a faithful brother, a loving father, and a man full of brotherly kindness. His last encouragement to his family was to trust in Jesus, read the New Testament, and see what a wonderful thing God has done for us in Christ. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He lives on in our memories and we are forever hopeful to be re-united with him in heaven.
