Obituary of Arthur George Petterson

Arthur "Art" George Petterson 90, of Tucson, passed away on February 14, 2015. Art was born February 26, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. In 1942, he began service with the Navy serving in the southwest Pacific with the Seventh Fleet as both enlisted man and commissioned officer. In 1948 he graduated Brooklyn College with a BA in Geology and married Margaret McLelland Lee. With his interest in civil engineering they eventually headed west "for more space". Arriving in Tucson in 1954, Art formed several engineering firms over the years including Osborn, Petterson, Walbert & Assoc. and in later years became a part-time, self-employed land surveyor. He realized his dream of retiring to Downeast Maine in 2005 before illness made him decide to return to Tucson in 2010. He loved Rotary and was a charter member of Rincon Rotary and President, 1975-76. He was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Tucson as well as several professional organizations. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Lee) Petterson; his sons, Andrew Lee Petterson of California; David McDonald Petterson (Veni) of Manhattan, NYC; daughter, Elizabeth McLelland Petterson of Tucson; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Nicole Gillmore of Tucson; cousins, Cecilia Lee of Phoenix and Richard and Joan Colton of Seaford, Long Island, NY and several other cousins in Massachusetts and NY. Memorial Service to be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 9252 E. 22nd, reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight of New England, P.O. Box 16287, Hooksett, NH, 03106, a non-profit that flies war veterans to Washington, DC to visit their national war memorials. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel .
