Obituary of GEORGE ALEXANDER FUNK

George Alexander Funk passed away to a more peaceful world on December 17, 2014. Born March 4, 1923 in Seattle, Washington to Roy I. Funk, Sr., and Marie A. Funk (nee Brons). George is survived by his loving wife of 45 years (married October 11, 1969) Marie Funk. Surviving wonderful relatives include niece and nephew, Kathy and Chris Funk, cousins: Dee Dee Kneeshaw, Mary Ann Abel (John), Tony Manca (Cathy), and Chuck Manca (Lupita); and the memory of his brother, Roy I. Funk (Beverly) and two beautiful aunts: Adella Manca and Claire Priewe. George survived two years in a rifle company in France and Northern Italy in World War II, and was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Sergeant. Graduating from the 1955 class at the University of Washington. George arrived in Arizona and settled down in Tucson in 1957. 1969 through 1971 Mr. Funk was employed as the Southern Arizona Field Representative for the State of Arizona Civil Rights Commission and he continued his participation in both civil rights and in protest of every U.S. armed war following World War II. As a Social Service Worker, he retired after 14 years with the Department of Economic Security Child Protective Services. Graveside Services will be conducted at Holy Hope Cemetery on North Oracle Road in the Chapel of the Nativity Mausoleum on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME DODGE CHAPEL.
