Obituary of Katharine Engels

Katharine (Kay) Engels died November 19, 2014, preceded in death by Karl, her husband of 46 years, survived by daughters, Joan Davidson and Barbara Swart. Kay grew up in NYC and studied art education at Pratt Inst. Her artwork ranged from painting to pottery to sewing. Active in St. Thomas Church (Malverne, NY) she led the altar guild and ran annual church bazaars. Hobbies included tennis, golf, bridge and traveling. After raising their family on Long Island, Kay and Karl moved to Tucson in 1965. She helped found the "Let's Sew" group at her retirement residence, making hand-made items for holiday craft sales benefitting the Casa de Los Ninos. At age 95 Kay received the Ben's Bells award for her volunteer work. She volunteered well into her 102nd year, crocheting afghans for the VA hospital. Services will be at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3738 N. Old Sabino Canyon Rd., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel. -
