Obituary of Consuelo Trejo Esparza

Consuelo Trejo Esparza 85, February 21, 1929 - September 19, 2014, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side. Connie was married for 55 years to Leo who preceded her in being raised into the heavens. She is survived by her six loving children whom she was so proud: Nicholas (Yong), Gigi Hinton, Casey (David Pfordt), Sam (Jennifer), Marta Goodwin (Bob Holl), Candace (Lisa McFall). Connie was the youngest of the Trejo children and was preceded in death by all of her siblings Luisa, Petra Bermudez, Isaac, Juanita Preciado, Arnulfo, Margaret Ruiz, Teresa Orr. She was a graduate of the Tucson High, the University of Arizona School of Nursing and Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago. Although she had many professional opportunities, Connie and Leo chose to focus her life on raising what they hoped would be a family of six children. Connie was an avid reader "a reader is never bored", a Wildcat fan and always had a beautiful yard and flower garden. She raised her garden like she raised her family - no big commotion, very few words, just steady, strong love and lots of positive encouragement. Mom was always most proud of her children until her grandchildren came along. Then she enjoyed watching them grow into "wonderful human beings". She was deeply loved by her eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Sarah Ells (Tyler) and Ben Esparza, Michael, Amie Lee (PJ) and Clare Goodwin, Chaz and Kat Pfordt and one great-grandchild, Carter Lee. Connie was appreciative of a life full of love and blessings everyday. As a member of the Samalayucca neighborhood and "Cholla Chicks" Homemakers Club, she found a lifetime of friends, including Beverly Boyd and Ann Young and Edie Volk. These women were the heart of our neighborhood and Mom's dear friends. It was in this wonderful neighborhood where Connie spent 55 years raising her children, loving her husband and enjoying her Grandchildren. She said raising her children in this neighborhood was a very special time in her life. Mom led by example. She taught us love of family, by taking care of her own siblings as they became sick and died. She taught us loyalty by encouraging us to stick together and support each other. She taught us work ethic by never letting us be lazy. We all had a job whether it was school a sport or the piano, "Do something" And now in her final days she has taught us how to die with grace. Special thanks to Vickie, Socorro, Blanca and Belinda, who served as Mom's caretakers for the final year of her life. Mom died as she lived - the room was full of love and adoration for our precious Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend and Wife. Connie will be deeply missed and remembered daily in our hearts and prayers.
