Obituary of Francis Matthew Osterman

Francis "Frank" Matthew Osterman, 86, was called to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, September 6th, 2013. Frank was the third of five children born to Joe and Ann Osterman of Akron, Ohio on July 6th, 1927 in Ironton, OH. Having worked hard his entire life, Frank was always thinking of others before himself. Frank began working at the tender age of 8, selling Liberty Magazines on the street corners of Covington, OH. Shortly after that, at the age of 10, his singing voice was discovered, and he stopped selling Liberty Magazines, when he found that singing in local bars for the patrons was more fun and more profitable as they tossed coins at his feet. Frank served his country in the Army Air Force, stationed in the Philippines shortly after WW II ended. Frank met the love of his life on a blind double date with his lifelong friend, Jim & Mary Lee Rechtin, who set him up with his "little sweetheart" Margaret Teresa Willmes of Covington, KY. Frank would always recall with his family how beautiful she looked in that yellow dress and high heels she was wearing. Frank was an avid softball player, often a crowd favorite as he caught long fly balls in his back pocket, even climbing trees to make catches. He is also known for "the catch", when playing softball he once fell off a cliff while fielding a "what would have been" home run, only to come up showing he had made the catch to end the inning. Marge and Frank were married on June 24th, 1950, recently celebrating their 63rd Wedding Anniversary. Frank was quite the entertainer, singing and doing his impersonations, having once finished runner up on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour singing Vaughn Monroe's famous hit, Ghost Riders in the Sky. He also sang on several radio stations in Cincinnati, when owning a television was a luxury. He was always the "ham" at the family gatherings, singing songs of old while Marge played the piano. Frank and Marge had five children of their own, instilling the traditional "work hard and be a good provider" ethic in each of his five children, making sure to bring them up knowing and loving the Lord. Frank is survived by: • his lovely wife Marge, his "little sweetheart" and soul mate of 63 years; • his son Daniel & Sindy Osterman of Tucson, Arizona and their five children; Dan's daughter Danika of Toluca Lake, California; Sindy's children son Jason and their two children Allison and Joshua; daughter Holly; son Chris; and son Jeff; • his son Dr. David & Kiki Osterman of Sherman, Texas and their four children and one grandchild; daughter Dr. Katie and Brian Boswell; his great granddaughter June Marie of Austin, Texas (Frank and Marge's first great grandchild); son Michael of Plano, Texas; daughter Missy of Austin; Texas; and son Dane of Sherman, Texas; • his son Stephen & Deana Osterman of Tucson, Arizona and their four children; Steve's son Shane Osterman of Tucson, Arizona; and daughter Keriann and Paul Chamberlain of Tempe, Arizona; Deana's son Dustin; son Brian and their two children Jadyn and Addison; • his son Thomas & Kelly Osterman of Mesa, Arizona and their two children; son Brady of Tucson, Arizona; and daughter Brooke of Mesa, Arizona; • his daughter Margaret Ann "Peggy" & David Durazo of Tucson, Arizona; • his brother, Tom and sister-in-law Marge Osterman of Cincinnati, Ohio; • his brother, Charles Osterman of Oceanside, California. • countless nieces and nephews • Preceded in death by brother Joseph and sister Ann Marie "Jo" Today we celebrate your life here on earth, and grieve that we lost you; but rejoice at the same time as we know in our hearts that you are with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We bid you a heartfelt farewell as you start the celebration of eternal life with Him that you so much deserve having lived such a wonderful Christian life on earth.
