Anton Pirak

Obituary of Anton Bert Pirak

Anton "Tony" Pirak, a beloved grandfather, brother, partner, and friend passed away on Friday, July 14th, at Banner Hospital in Tucson, AZ, after bravely battling health issues for many years. He was 70 years old.

Tony was born in 1953 to Emma Jean and Albino Pirak in Hayward, California. Growing up, he discovered a passion for sports and was an integral part of the Moreau High varsity baseball team that triumphed as state champions in 1971.

Tony attended Cal State Hayward where he received a degree in Accounting and met his former wife Gloria. Together they embarked on a journey that led them to Sonoma County in 1986 to be closer to family. As an active member of Resurrection Parish, he ministered, ushered, and participated in church groups.

Aside from his passion for baseball and faith, Tony found joy in gardening. He frequently rescued withering plants from the discount section of big box stores and nursed them to their full potential.

Tony had an extraordinary imagination that knew no bounds. A true dreamer at heart, he possessed an infectious optimism that brightened the lives of those around him. His ability to see the world through rose-colored glasses was an inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Rebecca and Daniel (Elizabeth), grandchildren Jackson, Wesley, and Penelope, brothers Richard, Kenny (Mary), and Stephen (Chris), and partner Paula Schoenecker.

A memorial service and reception to celebrate the life of Tony will be held at Resurrection Parish (303 Stony Point Road, Santa Rosa) on August 4th at 12:00pm. In honor of Tony’s optimism and penchant for Hawaiian shirts, dress in your favorite colorful shirt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in Tony's name.

Rest in peace, Tony. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know you. May your wild imagination and gentle optimism continue to inspire us all.
