Josephine D'Alessio

Obituary of Josephine Ann D'Alessio

Our beloved Josephine Ann D’Alessio passed away at age 98, peacefully in her home surrounded by family on April 4,2021. Many have said her passing on Easter Sunday, the holiest day of the year was no coincidence. She was joined in heaven by her husband of 50 years Matteo D’Alessio. She had a heart of gold and was the matriarch of the D’Alessio family, guiding us with love, honesty and integrity. She was born, raised and lived most of her life in New Haven, Connecticut where she raised her only son Paul D’Alessio. During World War II she worked at Winchesters manufacturing bullets and at the New Haven box shop before deciding to stay home to care for her parents, Alex and Mary DeMarco and raise her son. In her later years she enjoyed her independence and spending time with her lady friends weekly to play bingo and cards.  When she gave up driving she moved to Arizona permanently to live with her son. She had three grandchildren; Jessica, Carissa and Paula as well as seven great grandchildren and a great great grandson.

Josephine was described as having an infectious smile and the worst poker face you have ever seen. She loved to read, travel, watch Shark Tank and listen to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. She made unforgettable Christmas cookies every year and passed down her famous recipes to her grandchildren to carry on her tradition.

A devout mother, grandmother and friend. Her kind spirit will continue to guide us and her love will shine through each person she touched.
