Obituary of Thomas Lee Spratt

Thomas Lee Spratt 1937 – 2021.

Tom Spratt passed away peacefully on January 20, 2021, after a valiant battle with respiratory system complications.  He was born in San Angelo, Texas, and spent many Summers in Mingus, Texas, where his grandfather was a country doctor.   He married his wife Gloria in Dallas, Texas, in September of 1959.   They had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary shortly before Gloria’s passing. They raised a daughter, Sheila, together.

Tom attended college and graduate school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas receiving a Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Mathematics and minors in Economics and Physics and a Master’s of Science in Mathematics.  He spent the majority of his career working in various divisions of Sun Company, Inc., in the Dallas, Texas area.   After starting as a Research Mathematician at Sun’s Production Research Laboratory, Tom moved to the exploration and production group.  He ultimately served as Director of Strategic Planning and Director of Planning Services at the company’s headquarters in Radnor, Pennsylvania, before retiring.

Always with one of their beloved dogs accompanying them, Tom and Gloria explored all the national parks in the Western states up to Alaska.  Tom enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends, bowling and participating in local clubs. A long time member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Tucson, Tom was an active participant in the Marksmen and the Finance Committee.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria and his parents.  His daughter, Sheila, his nieces Marcia Crone and Shelley Young, and his nephews Rob Spratt and Dr. John Spratt survive him.  Donations may be made to the "St. Mark's United Methodist Church Permanent Endowment Fund" at 1431 W. Magee Road, Tucson, AZ 85704, or to one of the following charities he supported: The Humane Society of the United States, the National Park Foundation, or The Nature Conservancy in his memory.
