Obituary of Chloea Lea Stanton

Chloea Lea Stanton, 89 of Tucson, Arizona passed away Thursday, September 17 in hospice care after a long battle with multiple health concerns. Chloea was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Everett “Ray” Stanton, a son Edwin Stanton, a grandson, Darren Stanton and three siblings. She is survived by daughters, Vicki (Terry) Lutrick of Tucson, Dixie Stanton of La Habra, California and Becky Dean of Las Cruces, New Mexico, four grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. She is also survived by a brother, David Stevens of Hanahan, South Carolina and brother-in-law, Neil Judd of Sedan, KS.

Chloea was born in Kansas City, MO in 1930 to Edwin and Winnie Stevens and moved to her beloved Southwest in 1955. She and Ray lived in more than two dozen different places before he retired, never meeting a stranger and accumulating many, many friends all over the world.

She immersed herself in learning new cultures, listening to music, and enjoying and sharing food. She loved travelling around the U.S. and abroad, ultimately visiting 46 of the 50 states. Through travel and a love of books, she developed an encyclopedic knowledge of the history, mountains, wildflowers, and birds of the Southwest that she often shared with her grandchildren while camping – one of her greatest joys. After losing her eyesight, she continued to learn and travel by listening to thousands of audio books and music.

She will be missed for her wit, laugh, stories and her wealth of knowledge on an amazing variety of subjects.

Her ashes will be interred alongside her husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas with a family memorial at that time.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Crossroads Adult Care Home for providing excellent care over the past two years and also to the caring staff at Emblem Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 E Ft Lowell Rd, Tucson, AZ 85719.
