Obituary of Gloria Ramona Martinez

Our queen, Gloria Ramona Martinez, was born August 1, 1943 in rural Safford, AZ and went to be with our beloved Father on July 21st, 2020 in Tucson, AZ, surrounded by her siblings, children and grandchildren. Gloria was the firstborn of Alicia Figueroa and Gilbert Martinez, followed by six sisters and brothers. Gloria grew up in Solomon, AZ and graduated from Safford High School in 1961.  Gloria married her high school sweetheart, David Montez, November 24th, 1962, and had 4 beautiful children together. Throughout life, Gloria worked as a secretary for the University of Arizona, then moved over to Richardson Elementary, and retired her secretarial duties with the Flowing Wells District Office. She also worked part-time at Revco, while her children were in high school. Her hobbies included shopping, camping, sewing and making blankets, watching novellas, gardening with her great/grandchildren, dancing, and listening to George Strait. She was a Godly woman, who was always put together, often in her favorite shade of red. She is survived by her six siblings: Barbara Chavarria, Gilbert Martinez, Danny Martinez, Margarita Valenzuela, Tommy Martinez, and Christopher Martinez. She is also survived by her beloved children, Celia (Scott) Montez-Kemman, Carol Montez-Miller, Christine (Tim) Montez-Garcia, and David “Monty” Montez Jr. She also leaves behind her 16 grandchildren along with 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Alicia and Gilbert, her nana Adela, and mother-in-law, Pola Montez. Throughout her lifetime, Gloria remained devoted to God and always carried her faith with her in everything she did. Her love and strong devotion to God was something she pridefully passed on to all those who came into her path and in this we find peace in knowing that she was met at the gates of Heaven to be united with Our Maker for all eternity. There will be private services held at Adair Funeral Home, followed by a private burial at Holy Hope Cemetery in Tucson, AZ on Friday, July 31st. A celebration of life will follow on Saturday, August 1st at the home of David and Mercedes Montez at 4:00PM. We ask, if feeling at all unwell, you please do not attend. In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, the family asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers and express your love to those you care for and love. God bless.
