Obituary of W. Leonard Taffs

W. Leonard Taffs Well -lived W. Leonard Taffs was born August 25, 1926, died December 5, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anna Katie Taffs; his twin brother, Siegfried Taffs; stepsons, Charles Jordan and Jim; grandson, P.J.; and niece, Karen Toll, daughter of deceased older brother, Olaf Taffs. Leonard was a most excellent organist and pianist who held a Masters Degree from Bennington College, Vermont, and an honorary Doctorate from State University of Rockport (SUNY). After moving to Tucson, he held organist or organist-choirmaster positions at several local churches, including St. Michael and All Angels, and Christ the King. He was Dean of the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists for two terms of office. His parents had both been professional musicians. In addition to his encyclopedic knowledge of music, he had a mastery of subjects as disparate as railroading, felines, rocketry, and comedies for stage and film. His wit--alternately tongue-in-cheek, dry-pun sprinkled--caught many conversationalists off guard. One had to be of nimble intellect to keep pace with Leonard. His life was one that was well-lived with beauty and truth always at its core. He is much missed! Services and Burial will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
