Obituary of Joan Elder Scouller

Joan Elder Scouller, 11/14/1925 - 9/26/2013, passed away peacefully at her home at the Country Club at La Cholla under the care of Casa de la Luz Hospice. She is survived by her son, John, and wife, Anna Mae Scouller of Santa Clarita, California; two grandsons, Robert Sean and Brendon Ray Scouller; a brother, J. Stewart Elder, and wife, Irene Strickland Elder of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Don Scouller in 2009. Joan was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Hartford, MI, in 1929, where she graduated from high school in 1943. She graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1948. She then spent five years in the Army as an Occupational Therapist. She married Don Scouller on December 7, 1951. They moved to San Diego, California, in 1954 and spent 40 years there. Joan had a rewarding career as an elementary teacher, specializing in experimental uses of television in the classroom, and retired in 1983. Joan and Don moved to Sun City, Oro Valley, after retirement in 1993. Joan loved to travel and did so at every opportunity, including a trip around the world and many trips abroad, especially to England to visit friends. In Sun City, Oro Valley, she was very active in community clubs and theatrical activities. After Don's death, she moved to a retirement apartment at Country Club at La Cholla. A Memorial Service is planned at the Sun City Oro Valley Activity Center in the Navajo/Hohokam Rooms on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Her remains will be inurned with her husband at Fort Rosecrans in San Diego, California.
